reading much of everything summer
Monday, August 28th, 2006Just got back yesterday from Astoria Oregon and the ‘Catch that Beat’ fest being super fun/rad/amazing. My housemate Lorene and I rode the wave out to Tillamook from Union Station in pdx. The wave is the Tillamook county transit system. The little bus you can fit 2-3 bikes on. 10 clams one way, 15 round trip pdx—->tillamook—>pdx.
Once out in the coast we rode 30+ miles doing the 3 capes senick route as descirbed in Lizann Dunegan’s Road Biking Oregon which I stumbled apon the day before our trip at the Albina branch library.
I made a side pannier for my PUCH 18speed the day before out of dark blue/light blue vinyl Lo found out by the bluffs and more tannish vinyl I found at scrap, straps and buckles from the bins and some heavy duty velcro from the mill end store. Attached it to my rack with an intercate shoddy good idea at the time bungee cord system.
No pattern no pre sketchin no fuss sit down and do it and shit I put my sleeping bag, a couple of changes of clothes, cooking pot and food stuff- and a bunch of accessories in that bag and did just fine.
We camped near some dudes at the biker/hiker camp in cape lookout state forest from Bellingham. They were all duded out with spandex and gear so shiny new. After looking over our bikes and us telling them about our travels the dude asked ‘wheres your gear?’ I told him it was all homemade. These guys mastrabate to rei catalogs I know it. We used some of their ‘white lightning’ brand lube in the morning.
Ok so I’ll post all the rest of the journaling about a trip later.
